Hip hop has come a long way since the
80’s. A lot of you youngster may forget but Hip Hop is still fairly new and us olds heads remember that it wasn’t
always around. Now a days our genre is so accessible through the means of YouTube
and Sound Cloud. Anyone with a laptop and an internet connection can start
their music career. Is this a good thing?
On one hand I can see how these tools help us reach a wider more global
audience. It can help give a platform to some phenomenal artist that we might
not have discovered otherwise.
On the other hand, it gives people a platform
who may not have the same love and passion for the art. It shines a light on
people who may just want to exploit it for quick glory and fame. Look I know
that technology only moves one way. It’s not like we can say, “oh, our bad. Let’s back it up and not have
social media”. What we can do as fans is praise the hard working artist
more than the fly by night ones. Let’s not let the over saturation of this
genre ruin the blessing that comes from it. Karl Marx once said, "The
production of too many useful things results in too many useless people."
The clock is ticking, we’ll either prove him right or wrong.
